Learn moreWarren, Macomb County
A six-mile square with Detroit on its south edge
Warren is laid out like a grid. It runs about six miles on a side, from 8 Mile Road at the Detroit border up to 14 Mile Road at Sterling Heights. I-696 crosses the middle, and Van Dyke (M-53) splits the city east and west. Center Line sits inside it as its own small city, so city rules for Warren do not apply there.
Most of the city was farmland until after World War II, so homes here tend to come in repeating blocks of the same floor plan. That makes the stairs, basement, and garage easy to predict, but not always easy to move through. We would look at the stairway and the driveway in person before we pick a crew size and truck.

Post-war bungalows, then brick ranches
Warren went from about 42,600 people in 1950 to roughly double that by 1960. Farms were bought up and cut into subdivisions, and the city is now fully built out. Many homes date from the 1930s to the 1950s, and a lot of them still have their original layouts.
In the southeast part of the city, near 8 Mile, you will mostly find bungalows built right after the war. Bungalows of that age usually have a narrow stair to the upper half-story and another down to the basement. That matters for a piano or a big dresser. We pad the walls, add crew for the stair carry, and tell you up front if something needs to come apart to fit.
North of Stephens Road in that same area, the homes are brick ranches from after 1960. One level means shorter carries. The basement is usually where the heavy stuff lives: the workbench, the chest freezer, the old washer and dryer. Tell us what is down there when we quote, because that is where moves run long.
Parts of Warren, from Beebe's Corners to Bear Creek
Warren is mostly known by its mile roads, but these places each have a different feel on move day.
Southeast Warren
Mostly bungalows from right after World War II. Expect tight stairs to the attic and basement and not much room to turn a couch.
Village of Warren (Beebe's Corners)
The original settlement at Mound and Chicago Road, started in the 1830s. Homes near the old village center are among the city's oldest, so tell us about any older stairs or steps at the door.
Bear Creek Village
A condominium community north of 13 Mile and off Chicago Road. Most of it was built in the 1970s, and units are attached. Ask your association about move-in rules and where a truck may sit.
Beierman Farms
A southwest Warren subdivision. Homes on Beierman Avenue mostly date from the 1930s to the 1950s, so plan for older stairs and basements.
Northampton Square
Part of Northeast Warren, along with Bella Vista Estates, Fairlane Estates, and Lorraine. Lots on Northampton Drive average around 10,600 square feet, so measure the carry from the driveway to the door.
What to plan for on a Warren move
Big employers shape the calendar
The GM Technical Center covers the land between Van Dyke, Chicago Road, Mound, and 12 Mile, and about 20,000 people work there. Warren Truck Assembly sits on Mound Road too. If you work a plant or campus shift, tell us your schedule and we will set the start time around it.
Leave the city carts and bins
Warren's recycling bins belong to the city and stay with the house, with the address written on them. Trash is set out by 6 a.m. or after 6 p.m. the evening before. Leave the carts for the next owner or renter.
Know what the curb will not take
Furniture, mattresses, and appliances can go next to the trash. Carpet has to be cut, rolled, and tied in 4-foot lengths, and fridge doors must come off. Dirt, brick, tires, and paint are not picked up. The city Recycling Center on Flanders takes more, but only for residents with ID and not for contractors.
Snow alerts clear the streets
When the mayor declares a snow alert, all vehicles and trailers have to be off city streets until the street is cleared. Winter move dates can shift. If an alert is called, we can talk through a new time. Sidewalks must be cleared within 12 hours of snow, so shovel the path before the crew arrives.

Warren Moving FAQs
Warren's curbside pickup skips dirt, brick, tires, and paint. The city Recycling Center on Flanders takes electronics, scrap metal, and appliances, but it is for Warren residents with ID only. Contractors can't use it. Hazardous waste goes through Macomb County Environmental. Check the city sanitation page for current hours.
Warren requires a rental license, and it is not transferable between landlords or units. It also ends when the property is sold. You can ask the Rental Inspections Division to confirm the license before you sign.
No. Warren's bins belong to the city and stay with the home. If you have a red bin and live in a house, ask the city about a 95-gallon cart.
When the mayor declares a snow alert, vehicles and trailers must be off city streets until the street is cleared. A truck can't sit at the curb during an alert, so the day may need to move. Check the city snow policy and tell us if the forecast looks bad.
Often, yes. We look at the stair width, the turn, and the ceiling height at the estimate. Then we send enough crew, pad the walls and rails, and lay floor runners. Some pieces may need a different route. We'll tell you before move day.
