Learn moreCanton, Wayne County
Canton is a township, and that changes a few move-day details
Canton is a charter township in Wayne County, not a city. That matters on move day because the township does not own the roads. About 5% belong to the state, 65% to Wayne County, and 30% to homeowner associations. Who owns your street decides who plows it and whose parking rules apply. Our Brighton base is a little over 20 miles away.
Canton also has no single housing type. Cherry Hill Village has rear-lane garages and 24-foot streets. Pheasant Run has big homes with three-car garages. Fellows Creek Estates sits around ponds and a creek. Truck access and carry distance change a lot from one subdivision to the next, so an in-person estimate gives you a better crew and truck plan than a guess over the phone.

Almost everything here was built after the mid-1970s
Canton was mostly farmland until the mid-1970s. Since then it has filled in with subdivisions, condo developments, and neighborhoods run by associations. You will find few old farmhouses and many large newer homes. Large homes mean more furniture, so we would schedule extra crew time instead of squeezing a big house into a short window. If you live on an association street, check your association's move-in and move-out rules before you book. We will ask about them when we quote.
Cherry Hill Village is the one place built like an old town. It grew up around the original hamlet at Cherry Hill and Ridge roads. Garages are mostly at the rear or sides, so most homes have front porches and a rear lane. Lots range from cottage size, about 40 to 45 feet wide, to estate lots 75 to 80 feet wide. A long carry from the porch to the truck is normal, and floor runners go down the hall for that.
Canton neighborhoods and what each means for a move
Canton has no single downtown, so people say where they live by subdivision. These are a few of the named neighborhoods.
Cherry Hill Village
Built around the old hamlet at Cherry Hill and Ridge roads. Garages at the rear or sides, front porches, mostly 24-foot streets, and a mix of cottage, village, and estate lots.
Cherry Hill Village Condominiums
Historic-look site condos off Roosevelt Street, built between 2001 and 2011. Mostly two stories with two or three car garages and finished basements, so expect stairs both up and down.
Pheasant Run
Mostly built from 1995 to 2000, with Cape Cod, Colonial, and Ranch homes of roughly 2,400 to 3,800 square feet and three-car garages. A full house of furniture, plus whatever is stored in the garage.
Fellows Creek Estates
Four-bedroom homes of about 2,700 to 3,400 square feet around ponds and a creek, with private sidewalks. Big floor plans with mature trees along the drive.
Windemere
Off Canton Center Road near Warren and Sheldon roads. Brick and stone homes, most over 2,300 square feet, with large patios that often hold outdoor furniture to move.
Sheldon
A historic crossroads on Michigan Avenue west of I-275, and a designated Michigan State Historic Site. Older buildings stand close to the road, so parking space is tighter than in the newer subdivisions.
Things to check before move day
Snow emergency parking ban
Canton Public Safety declares a snow emergency, typically when about five inches or more is predicted. During one, parking is prohibited on all Canton streets, and vehicles can be ticketed or towed. That includes a moving truck. For a winter move, pick a backup date.
Who plows your street
Most subdivision streets are plowed by contractors hired by the homeowner association. County-owned subdivision roads are plowed only after more than 6 inches of snow. If your street is slow to clear, we can send a smaller truck plan and carry from the nearest clear spot.
Carts and curbside after the move
Garbage bags must go inside the cart, and bags left outside are not collected as bulk. Yard waste pickup runs from April to December, and Christmas trees are picked up in January. Confirm the schedule with the township before you stack boxes at the curb.
Canton Clean-up events
The township holds Canton Clean-up events on scheduled Saturdays at the Priority Waste yard on Van Born Road. They take home electronics, batteries, household construction debris, and latex paint, with limits. Commercial vehicles and hazardous waste are not accepted.

Canton Moving FAQs
Not during a snow emergency. Parking is prohibited on all Canton streets then, and vehicles can be ticketed or towed. Keep a backup date if your move falls in December through March.
It depends who owns it. Most subdivision streets are plowed by contractors the association hires. County-owned subdivision roads wait until more than 6 inches of snow. Ask your association who plows your street.
The township does not say what any association requires, and about 30% of Canton's roads are association-owned. Read your association's rules or call the board, and tell us what you find when we quote your move.
The village was planned with mostly 24-foot-wide streets and many rear-lane garages. Where the truck sits, on the street or the lane, decides the carry. A long carry just means more crew time on the quote.
Canton Clean-up events accept household batteries and latex paint, with limits, and they are held on scheduled Saturdays at the Priority Waste yard on Van Born Road. Check the township's clean-up page for the current schedule.
